This year the meeting will be held in Louisville, KY.
October 6th-8th, 2016
The Galt House Hotel is across the street from the floating station which will make touring the waterfront a breeze. Opportunities for those who would like to RV/camp, or Inn/B&B can also be researched for those interested in alternative accommodations.
The conference is in the final stages of planning. The speakers have been identified and scheduled as part of the events, thanks in no small part to the Louisville delegation assisting us with the planning. Special tours have been scheduled.
If you plan on coming early or staying a few extra days, the Louisville Visitor Bureau http://www.gotolouisville.com/index.aspx is a good place to start your search. The upcoming emails will include some suggested opportunities for you to plan on your own either before or after the annual meeting.
Did you know that from 1881 to 1972, the Life Saving Service, and later the Coast Guard, patrolled the Falls area, rescuing rivermen and passengers, saving stranded boats and cargoes, recovering victims of drowning, and performing heroic action during Ohio River floods. Station records reveal that between 1881 and 1915, 7000 lives and property worth $6 million were saved by the crews of LSS#10. This important lifesaving station closed in 1972. The station had three floating stations during its history.
