The Forge River Station Site site was established in 1872
Station closed in 1947 and turned over to GSA in 1955. 1925? station house survives and was moved to Ocean Beach Park in 1948 to become part of Flynn’s Hotel, now the Fire Island Hotel and Resort. No station buildings survive at this site.
Station Site Notes:
1872 completed and with apparatus; 1878 repaired; 1886 contracts entered for repairs and enlargements; 1887 repairs made to boathouse (USLSS Annual Reports). The station was still in commission on the eve of World War II and remained on the listing of active stations until January 1948. The property was turned over to GSA in 1955 (USCG Historian's Website).
