The Kill Devil Hill Station Site site was established in 1878
Station closed in 1964. 1878 station house survives and is a real estate office. 1933 station house was demolished in 2004.
Station Site Notes:
1878 will soon be in operation (1882-1883?); 1885 additions and repairs (USLSS Annual Reports). Turned over to GSA in 1964; The crew from this station assisted Orville and Wilbur Wright in their historic first heavier-than-air flight on 17 December 1903 (USCG Historian's Website).
