Station closed in 1938 and transferred to the National Park Service in 1970. 1901 station house survives and is the Sleeping Bear Point Coast Guard Station/Maritime Museum, part of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

Station Site Notes:

1901 new station being built; 1902 station completed (USLSS Annual Reports). Turned over to GSA in 1955 (USCG Historian's Website). The Station was decommissioned in 1938 by Admiral Willard Smith, who grew up in the area and whose father worked at the station. It sat vacant until it was transferred to the National Park Service in 1970 upon creation of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (Kim Mann, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore).
