After check-in and welcome remarks, we’ll board the bus for a trip on the Seaway Trail eastward to Oswego. During the trip we’ll hear a talk on “The Future of Our Maritime Heritage”. We’ll tour the H. Lee White Maritime Museum and their 1943 tug boat. Then we’ll bus to Fort Ontario which is on the bluff just above the site of the former 1876 Oswego Life-Saving Station. We’ll tour the Fort; and hear talks about the life-saving stations in that area, the USCG moving boats on the Erie Canal, and the Senior Chief from Station Oswego will talk about the 1942 incident which took the lives of six Coastguardsmen.

Board bus for ride west to Lockport. Along the way we’ll hear a presentation on the history and impact of the Erie Canal. In Lockport, our two hour boat ride on the Erie Canal will take us past five of the original 1800’s locks. Then we’re on to Station Niagara for a tour. Station Niagara was built in 1893 and is one of the few original stations still in use as a CG Station. Next we’ll bus to Niagara Falls to see the site of a dramatic breeches buoy rescue in 1918 performed by the crew of Station Niagara. The bus will bring us back to Webster after a quick stop to see the Falls.

USLSSHA Annual Business Meeting at Holiday Inn Express, Webster, NY. Following the meeting, we’ll hear more about the history of the area and Francine Glassic will give a presentation on Gold Medal Keepers Doyle and Gray. Then we’ll head north to Station Rochester. (We will be carpooling this day.)
